Trustee Board Position Open

It has been a fun, interesting and rewarding experience for me. I have had a chance to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes of various businesses and also the difficulties that small town businesses face.

We will be introducing a new tiered membership plan for 2014, which I think will better fit the many needs of our business community as well as our individual community members who believe in Willapa Harbor.  Our trustees and regular meeting attendees have put a lot of time into this and I am excited to have it in place.

I want to thank the current group of officers and trustee members for their time and dedication to our great community. It is a great group of people who are very dedicated and also have a deep love for our community. With that being said, it is necessary for me to send out a call to others to step forward and help take a more active leadership role in the Chamber.

We currently have a position open on the trustee board and are looking for volunteers. This position does not take a lot of time. We meet once a month with a few e- mails in between. We also have a 1st Vice-President opening  as well as my position as president. I am retiring from my job as the South Bend School Superintendent this year and right now I do not know what my “next life” has in store for me, so I will not be running again for the Chamber’s president’s position. This job does not take up a great deal of time. Our Chamber Director, Laurie Johnson, does a great job in organizing things for me! It is the perfect position for someone who cares deeply about the community and wants to help continue to promote our great little community.

We have many good and qualified people in the community. I would love to see a business owner(s) step up and get involved. I believe that a business owner would bring a different perspective to the trustee board and the organization in general. Our board is currently made up primarily of people who work for businesses, but do not have that “ownership” background.

If anyone is interested in getting involved, please contact me at

Again, thanks to everyone who has worked on the various committees, Willapa Harbor events, etc. over the past years. You are the ones that help make Willapa Harbor such a great place to live!

Happy Holidays to Everyone,

Mike Morris
