With the absence of Councilman Jim Fluckinger, Toledo's August 3 City Council meeting began.
Since there were no major reports from Mayor Jerry Pratt, attention was quickly turned to the matter of the sewage treatment. In the report, Craig McCown stated that the cleaning "got over 99 percent" of the waste. While the cleaning would continue, McCown assured that the workers were proceeding to get the job done before fall and winter arrived. The closing of this topic was quickly diverted to the subject of police patrol in Winlock.
Toledo Police Chief John Brockmueller started the topic with the statement that "businesses are really happy over there." When asked about how the patrols were going, Chief Brockmueller reported that a felony arrest had been made in Winlock while Toledo was doing fairly well other than a brief street fight. "Once in line, people will calm down," Chief Brockmueller said about taking over the patrol of Winlock.
Moving right along to other matters of new business, with a unanimous vote, the council agreed to pay the total amount due for their sewage treatment in the amount of $661,827.
After this entry the meeting moved on to new business, it was brought to the council's attention that there was no current drug fund; thus meaning that when a drug arrest is made and taken to court, the court can impose a fee for the defendant to pay. This fee would then go into a drug fund to repay the police station for the investigation. At this time, the council members moved to find a way to get a drug fund available for the police of Toledo.
When the agenda opened to the public, a question was asked to Mayor Pratt what the recent change in salary would do for the council members. In response, Mayor Pratt stated, "all members are paid the same at this time."
Next, the question was proposed if there would be an increase, and Mayor Pratt answered that the increase would be over $400. No more questions were asked and the meeting was adjourned.
The next Toledo City Council meeting is scheduled for August 17 at 6 pm.
