Pe Ell-Willapa Valley crushed undermanned Winlock 50-0 in the Central League opener for both teams Friday night at Winlock. Kaelin Jurek streaked for three touchdowns, scored a safety, rushed for 107 yards, and the Titans' starters seemed to score at will.
The way Pe Ell-Willapa Valley (P-WV)was paving holes in Winlock's line it looked like the extra time in the weight room paid dividends for the Titans. Pe Ell-Willapa Valley grounded out 400 yards on 31 carries for an average of 12.9 ypc.
"Our line did a good job of blocking and our runners did a nice job of hitting the holds," Coach Fluke said. "Defensively, our line did well penetrating." Trevor Cook raced 80 yards for a TD before Jurek rambled for a 35-yard TD for a quick 14-0 lead. The Titans padded their lead after Seth Flemetis (93 yds, 5 car) zipped in from nine yards out, followed by a Jason Fluke to Jurek 14-yard TD pass play and the lead was 27-0 with 39 seconds left in the first quarter. Jurek scampered 65 yards for a score. Flemetis flew into the end zone from 80 yards away. Tyler Justice blew in from 35 yards out and the score was 48-zip at halftime. In the second half, P-WV score a safety. Robert Espina booted 6 of 7 extra points.
Jurek also paced the Titans on defense with 10 tackles (6 solos) and a sack. Jason Fluke also had 10 tackles (3 solos).
Titan head coach Josh Fluke started subbing in midway through the second quarter and the starters were done at halftime.
"The kids are starting to buy in a lot of what we're trying to do," Coach Fluke said. "They're been hanging out together and as a result, we're coming together and developing pretty good chemistry."
The Titans host league power Toledo Friday at 7 pm at Crogstad Field in Menlo. Toledo defeated Morton-White Pass 30-7 last week at home.
"Toledo has some all-Staters back that made it to the semifinals last year. They have a very good quarterback and running back and they run the Wing T very well. They are pretty big, about like us, and they have good speed and quickness.
