"Seeds of Life" by Douglas C. Orr on display from Alder Grove Gallery.
The Aberdeen Art Center, located at 200 W. Market St. in Aberdeen, is proud to announce the opening of its first tenant Alder Grove Gallery. Gallery hours will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 4 pm to 8 pm beginning with the June 3 Aberdeen Art Walk. The center is in the process of building a list of local artists it can feature and help promote.
Alder Grove gallery will feature a mix of Contemporary, Traditional, Urban and Unique Art. A grand opening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, July 23, as part of a day-long Aberdeen Art Walk featuring art, music and a street dance.
Alder Grove Gallery scheduled exhibits will be on display for approximately two months long. Some of the exhibits will be themed, while others will be open-call exhibits along with some consignment art. The new gallery will promote its exhibits with a mix of post cards, posters, mailings, press releases, sandwich boards, pole banners, along with online posts, such as Artslant.com and Facebook. Some art receptions and other events will be scheduled for both the Aberdeen Art Center and for Alder Grove gallery.
Alder Grove Gallery is just the first step in the creation of the Aberdeen Art Center. According to Art Center Director, Douglas Orr. When complete, he says, the center will focus on "building economic opportunities for local artists of all ages" and "building a stronger community through art". Plans for the center also include art classes, artist work-sell spaces, motivational seminars and youth art summer camps. Plans also call for a space for community programs, public and private arts events, both in and outside of the center, meeting rooms for artists and art groups, and a Phantom Gallery program that will make use of vacant downtown storefronts.
Along with Alder Grove alley, there is a tattoo shop and available space for other galleries, and additional art-related space.
"The hope is that The Aberdeen Art Center will be a place where the members of the four harbor art groups--Associated Arts of Ocean Shores, Harbor Art Guild, South Beach Arts Association and North Beach Artists Guild can come together and have one central hub to promote their gallery programs, art and exhibits. Along with the opportunity to meet their peers and build a stronger artists community" said Orr. We hope the community will embrace and support us these efforts.
