Sheriff warns of scams in the area
The Lewis County Sheriff's Office is cautioning residents against phone scams being perpetrated in the area involving individuals posing as the IRS.
Deputies have received several reports of random calls by "very aggressive" persons with "strong foreign accent/dialects" claiming to be from the IRS and demanding personal information.
The Sheriff's Office would like residents to be aware that the IRS normally corresponds by mail rather than phone calls and such attempts to gather information are fraudulent.
"Don't ever give out personal information over the phone to someone you are unsure or wary of", said Sheriff Robert Snaza, stating it is "better to be safe than sorry."
