Community forums, events, fairs...whatever form they take, they usually provide at least a couple things:
- Information about resources and services
- A chance to meet people face to face, and to ask questions
As this goes to press, the Alzheimer's Forum will be in motion--as mentioned last time out. 10:30-11:30, 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's, geared toward caregivers, family, etc. And 3:30-4:30 Challenging Dementia Behaviors. Both sessions at the Ocean Park Fire Department.
But wait, there's more! (And I'm not talking about a set of kitchen knives.) June 2nd, from 11-3:00 is the First Responder Safety Fair at the Pacific County Administration Facility on Sandridge Road in Long Beach.
In addition to the information and putting faces to names noted above, there will be FREE hot dogs! And a chance to win a new bike, plus activities for kids. The event is, as you probably guessed, geared toward the whole family.
Some of the information being presented includes detecting fraud, a demonstration of Project Life Saver, water safety, a bike rodeo CPR and fire training--which makes it a good thing that Smoky the Bear will be in attendance.
And did I mention free hot dogs?
There's a lot to cover in just a few hours, so formats vary from presentations to distributing information and answering questions.
Attorney Jason Quackenbush will be presenting two fraud classes: Fraud against Seniors at 11:30; and Fraud against Teens at 1:00.
Other people will be representing the Long Beach Police Department, Pacific County Sheriff's Department, the National Weather Service and others.
We'll be there also, so you might see us hanging around Smoky or eating hot dogs (they're free!) when we're not answering questions and handing out information.
This is a good chance to meet--and be a part of--the community. See you there!
