Local people who sew and quilt need to know when to enter their items at the Sewing Building for the 2015 Pacific County Fair. As in recent years, registration in open class needlework, sewing and miscellaneous will be held only one day - Sunday, Aug. 23 - from 2-7 p.m.
The time is important to remember because a different time appears in one section of the fair book; the correct time is from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Items delivered after that time will not be eligible for judging but can still be displayed.
Information about categories begins on Page 17 of the fair book. Categories include needlework, knitting, crocheting and woven; sewing and apparel; and quilting.
A table runner contest is this year's sewing competition, with prizes going to the three table runners receiving the most popular votes cast by visitors to the Sewing Building. Exhibitors may enter only one table runner in the contest, although other entries are welcome in the open class for judging. Contest rules are spelled out on Page 18 of the fair book.
Quilters are asked to measure their quilts prior to entering them in the fair. Measurements determine the quilt size, as follows:
- Twin size - width 63"-77"; length 77"-90"
- Double-full - width 78"-85"; length 84"-90"
- Queen - width 86"-95"; length 90"-100"
- King - width 96"-108"; length 94"-108"
If a quilt is longer than the size shown, the width should be used to determine the name size (king, queen, full or twin). Volunteers from the Willapa Harbor Quilters will be on hand during registration to help with questions. Questions in advance can be directed to Sewing Building Superintendent Becky Coburn at 360-934-5567.
The items will be judged Monday, Aug. 24, and then arranged for display for the fair, Aug. 26-Aug. 29. Entries must be picked up on Sunday, Aug. 30, between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon.
