Ryderwood News 9.2.15 | sanders,

The Garage Sales seemed to be very well attended on Friday, but the weather didn't cooperate very well on Saturday. Heavy rains and winds left us without power for 3 or 4 hours that morning. Since I didn't want to do what it takes to open my garage door when the power is out, I have no idea what was going on. The rain couldn't have been more welcome. There has been just about an inch of rain since sometime in June and the year's total is nearly 20 inches below normal. Hopefully it's in time to save some of the really stressed plants I'm seeing. I'm sure our local firefighters are relieved. Friday night's dinner at the Café will be Linda & Denny's meatloaf with all the fixings. Served at 5 p.m., the all-inclusive meal will include salad, side dishes, beverage and dessert for $9. Please call 295-0875 by Wednesday to make reservations. All readers are invited to enjoy these home-cooked meals that are prepared and served by volunteers. Saturday morning is next, not to be missed, Town Breakfast. Prepared by our local veterans, all proceeds benefit the town and other veterans. You won't find a better spread anywhere - eggs however you like them, sausage or ham, biscuits and gravy, pancakes - lots of choices. Orange juice and bottomless coffee are always included.

Tuesday's Senior lunch menu includes Turkey Pot Roast (you won't believe it's not beef!) with mashed potatoes, broccoli Normandy and watermelon slices. The meals are served at noon and a $3 donation is requested. All readers over the age of 60 are welcome to enjoy these meals. Call 295-3813 to make or break your reservations.

Monday the 7th is the official celebration of Labor Day, meaning the Post Office will be closed. For most of us retirees, holidays are just about like every other day of the year. The holiday won't interfere with the service of burgers and soup at the Café from 4 - 6 p.m. There really isn't a better burger to be had anywhere.

The 13th Annual ARTrails Studio Tour is coming to Ryderwood the 3rd and 4th weekends of September. I believe this is a first for Cowlitz County and it's definitely a first for Ryderwood. Luthier (aka ukulele-maker) Howard Replogle's studio tour literally puts Ryderwood on the ARTrails Catalog's centerfold map. Ryderwood's ads are on page 16.

Don't forget to register to vote in Cowlitz County. The deadline is October 5 and it can be done online at: elections@co.cowlitz.wa.us
