Recent weather patterns have some of us very happy to live in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks to cool nights and daytime temperatures under 100º, I'm surviving another summer without air conditioning. Rules of thumb: 1. Open windows at night. 2. Use fans (ceiling, furnace, floor and window, exhaust) to increase cool air circulation. 3. Close windows ASAP if the sun comes up early or if 90+º temperatures are predicted. 4. Keep the fans going (except for the exhaust ones) - the air they circulate is still cooler than what is outside.
The Women's Club ladies will hold their monthly luncheon and meeting at the Creekside Café in Longview on Wednesday. They will carpool from the Café at noon. Contact Marty at 295-0096 for information.
The Red Hat ladies will "Gather" on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Pioneer Hall. It will be an afternoon filled with fun and games, for sure. There will be no "Outing" on the 4th Thursday because of all the Garage Sale preparations that will be going on.
Garage Sale weekend will be the 28th & 29th. Sign-up sheets for the map of home garage sales are located at the Library, Café, Community Hall and RISA office. (No need to sign up on more than one.)
Donations to the Women's Club Sale that is held at the same time can be dropped off most weekday mornings starting on Monday the 17th. Basically, if you see vehicles there or the door is open, it's okay to drop off donations. Just don't leave anything on the front porch.
Friday night's dinner at the Café will be Jan & Paul's Chicken Tetrazzini. Served at 5 p.m., the all-inclusive meal will include salad, side dishes, beverage and dessert for $9. Please call 295-0875 by Wednesday to make reservations. All readers are invited to enjoy these home-cooked meals that are prepared and served by volunteers.
The Social Club's Annual Potluck Picnic in the Park will be this Saturday at 5 p.m. All members and potential members are invited and asked to bring a neighbor.
This group contributes an incredible amount of volunteer hours and funds to make Ryderwood such a special place. Guess what? The same can be said of all our non-profit groups. Ryderwood boasts both VFW and AMVETS posts - some members belong to both.
There will be another evening of Card Bingo on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. It's a card game played sort of like Bingo. Some go home with more than the 4 nickels, 5 dimes, 4 quarters and a dollar (a total of $2.60) they bring. The game requires zero skill and chance is the winner.
Tuesday's Senior Nutrition meal on the 18th will be Spaghetti with Caesar salad, veggies and garlic bread. The meals are served at noon and a $3 donation is requested. All readers over the age of 60 are welcome to enjoy these meals. Please make or break reservations by 6 p.m. on Monday by calling 295-3813 or 355-7315.
Reminders: Ryderwood Town-Wide Garage Sales, August 28-29; ARTrails, 3rd & 4th weekends of September; Register to vote before October 5th.
