First off, this coming Sunday is the end of Daylight Saving Time, so be sure to turn your clocks back an hour. As far north as we are, I'd just as soon we had DST year around - I'd rather it stayed light a little later rather than lighter in the morning.
Happy Halloween on Friday, which will be followed by our veterans' groups (VFW & AMVETS combined) monthly Town Breakfast on Saturday. You don't know what you're missing if you've never made the trip out to the end of SR 506 for the best breakfast fare to be had anywhere. Pancakes, eggs how you like them, biscuits and gravy, ham or sausage, orange juice and bottomless coffee - all at reasonable prices. All funds generated are reinvested in Ryderwood projects. (That includes recently replacing both electric stoves in the kitchen. Thanks, guys!
Our Red Hat ladies and some others had a little excitement last Thursday: they were in Longview near where the tornado hit. It must have been every bit as exciting as the news footage showed. Considering the amount of debris flying around, it's amazing that no one was seriously injured.
The weather has been in a word: wet. I believe the average rainfall for October is 4 inches and we've had almost 7 inches this month alone. Even if you account for the near zero rainfall this summer, we're above average so far since September. Another point my local weather guy points out, most days temperatures have varied less than 10º.
Ryderwood is an official Firewise community and we just had the fall clean-up last weekend. A group of volunteers did a fine job of cleaning up around 10 properties on a mostly dry day and disposing of dimensional lumber. The chipper will be coming to town on November 6th, so place any trimmings you have in the alley with the cut ends facing out. Ryderwood no longer burns yard debris and brush.
Friday night's dinner at the Café will be a special Halloween meal with a chicken entree. Call Linda at 295-0875 by Wednesday to make reservations. The meals are served at 5 p.m. and are always all-inclusive from beverage and salad to dessert. The menu for Senior Nutrition Lunch on Tuesday November 2nd is not known at time of this writing. Call Jan at (360) 295-0597 by 6 p.m. on Monday to make reservations.
