This will be a busy week for some of the ladies in town, what with the Women's Club luncheon at noon on Wednesday (dress up for Halloween!) and the Red Hat ladies Gathering at 2 p.m. on Thursday. Both groups "meet and greet" in Pioneer Hall. Some readers may not be aware that the building was originally the logging town's Infirmary. The Ryderwood Women's Club owns and maintains the building today.
This weekend has "Open Mic" at the Café on Saturday (7 p.m.) followed on Sunday by an Ice Cream Social (6 p.m.) and Card Bingo (6:30 p.m.) in Community Hall. The big winners at bingo bring cakes for the next time.
Of significance to everyone in Ryderwood and Vader is the upcoming Castle Rock School Board meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 14th, in Ryderwood. It will be held at 5:30 p.m. in Community Hall. This school district is partially supported by our County school taxes and levies, and this is your opportunity to see the faces of those who have the authority to spend it. This is the school board's effort to reach all of its constituents.
As I said last week, this year's Craft Fair and Fall Festival will likely be the largest ever, so please invite everyone you know to see all the fine wares that will be for sale. I believe Meredith has quite a few quilts to display at the Café. The antique signature quilt is quite large and will need a large area for display. We can hope the beautiful weather will hold so that the Cruisers will want to show off their "rides".
"The Nest" will also be open for business, of course - the repairs were expertly done and Clyd and Rae have got it back looking as beautiful as ever. "The Nest", where everything is made in Ryderwood, offers a year 'round venue for our local crafters. Its regular hours of operation are Wednesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Friday night's menu at the Café will be Chicken Enchiladas prepared by a new volunteer chef. (Thank you, thank you!) The meals are always all-inclusive from beverage and salad to dessert. The meals are served at 5 p.m. Call Linda at (360) 295-0875 by Wednesday to make reservations. The menu for Senior Nutrition Lunch on Tuesday the 14th will be Sloppy Joes mixed veggies and sliced peaches. Call Jan at (360) 295-0597 by 6 p.m. on Monday to make reservations.
