Ryderwood News 05.01.13

The Garage Sale weekend was a busy and successful time for all who participated. The town was absolutely full of sales and shoppers; and shoppers didn’t go home empty-handed. This sort of event is what this little Town is famous for: great deals, enough food to “tie you over”, and friendly people. The weather couldn’t have been more cooperative and the town looks fantastic!

The tulips are fantastic this year. I’m told that the large red and yellow ones are considered the “Old Ryderwood Tulips” and pre-date the arrival of deer as full-time residents. Ryderwood is proof that there are no 100% deer-proof plants – this time of year they even chew on and sample the likes of salal, rhododendron and garlic.

Meanwhile, a fine family of Canada Geese has set up housekeeping at the Lake. This is the first group over there in a couple of years. There is also a family of ring-necked ducks swimming around with the mallards - the ring-necks usually leave after the wintering season. (They’re small and compact, the males with distinctive white sides and ring on black bill - I can’t find any ring around the neck, so why the name?)

The 55-Alive AARP driving class will be Thursday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. It’s $12 for AARP members with cards and $14 for others.

Saturday is the monthly Town Breakfast from 8 – 10 a.m. You’d be hard-pressed to find any better a “meal deal” for miles around!

Monday is Karaoke at 6:30 p.m. in the Café, where you can get burgers & soup if you come before 6 p.m..

Starting on Monday, our mail will be delivered later, sorted later and available later. The process begins at 11:30 a.m., with only 1 individual to do it all. Patience is the only requirement needed.
