Surrounded by teammates in the Toledo High School Commons, senior Brennan Rakoz (foreground right) signs a letter of intent Thursday to attend Southern Oregon University where he plans to play basketball under the leadership of Head Coach Brian McDermott (foreground left). During his senior year at Toledo, Rakoz became a much-celebrated athlete, averaging 18 points and 7.5 rebounds per game during his last season, as well as being designated All-Area MVP and State Tournament MPV. "He just exploded and did what he needed to do to make us a better team," said Toledo Head Coach Scott Merzoian of Rakoz’ final season as an Indian. Now looking toward a career as a Raider, Rakoz said he hopes he will be able to form close friendships at SOU like he has in Toledo, adding he is not sure which major he will enter into but is considering business, occupational therapy and education. Rakoz is the latest of local seniors to sign letters of intent, including Winlock’s Rachel Archer (see page 6) and Toledo’s Mack Gaul earlier last year.
