Pvt. Nathanael John Kunke was promoted last month to Pvt. 2 (E-2) while stationed at Fort Casey in South Korea.
Pvt. 2 Kunke completed his special training as a Fire Support Specialist 13 F Class 09/10-14 while stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma last February. He graduated during The Teamwork Battalion Graduation Ceremony. He was trained by the 1st Battalion, 78th Field Artillery.
Pvt. 2 Kunke graduated from 8 weeks of basic training last December at Fort Jackson in South Carolina as a member of the 313 Delta Infantry Battalion. After all the training, he ranked 30th of 260 recruits in his division during basic training.
Pvt. 2 Kunke has been stationed at Fort Casey in South Korea since March 1st, 2014. He is enrolling in three college courses this June on the base and will receive credit from Central Texas College. He plans on taking psychology, biology and sociology classes while pursuing a degree in forensics psychology.
Currently Pvt. 2 Kunke is applying for a Skill Level 2 position as a JFO (Joint Forward Observer), which is training for CAS (Close Air Support).
During Fister Certification training, Pvt. 2 Kunke finished fourth of 100 runners while running 2 miles in 12 minutes flat.
Nate said that he loves South Korea, but he misses his family, home-life, Patrizio's, long-boarding, his dog and cats, and his friends. “Tell Scott (Sheriff Johnson), Paul (Kim), Greg (Wonhoff) and Tom (Sanchez) I said hey.”
Nathan is a 2013 graduate of South Bend HS, and is the son of Sally and George Kunke of South Bend. He has a sister, Monique Nicole Frank, of Raymond.
