On May 31 at 6:30 p.m. the Lewis County Fire District 15 (Winlock) will host Chehalis Fire Chief Ken Cardinale for an informational presentation discussing creation of a defensible space around your home in case of a wildfire. The location of the presentation is at the Lewis County Fire District 15 station located at 609 NW Kerron Avenue in Winlock.
With the warmer weather predicted throughout Summer, it is critical to prepare ahead of season to clear vegetation and combustible materials from around your home and outbuildings to reduce the risk of fire.
Local firefighter Patrick Jacobson stated "We will show individuals how to protect their homes in case of wildfires. In eastern Washington they have been using this concept to educate individuals in steps to better protect their homes in case of wildfires." With the warmer summers we are having every year, this is a great opportunity to learn more about what you can do to protect your home. If you live in an area with a chance of a wildfire then this is for you.
