Members of the Ocean Shores business community have raised concerns to the City Council about the carnival that was hosted over the Fourth of July weekend at the Ocean Shores Convention Center. There was a calling to assess the success of the carnival, as well as some letters of disapproval. The discrediting letters cited things like the fact that such events do not actually succeed in drawing more people to the area, while others cited that the carnival was taking away from what business does come to Ocean Shores.
Other problems cited at the council meeting included the fact that the carnival did not advertise that they would be in Ocean Shores during the Fourth of July, and the local businesses were not notified that the carnival was going to happen.
Most of the complaints were noted towards the timing of the event, as most of Ocean Shores' business income is generated during the summer, the local business owners are very keen to get business done during the summer months.
