Toledo High School's 9th annual Mr. T Pageant was held Thursday, March 7 in the school commons. The Mr. T Pageant is hosted by Horst Malunat and Ron Gaul, both teachers at Toledo.
The event features a small group of Toledo senior boys competing in activities, such as fashion and talent shows, to be crowned Mr. T. The boys are judged by Mr. Huffman (dubbed the Boss), Mr. Corrigan (Mr.T founder), Mrs. Gale (the Shrink), and Ms. Welch (the Talent Scout). Each senior has a hostess to help choreograph and dress them.
This year's contestants were Westin Wallace, Hunter Eaton, Ethan Buck, Coleby Cherrington, Phillip Deschene, and Jessee Weeks. The senior crowned Mr. T. 2019 was Coleby, and the close runner up was Ethan.
The boys opened Mr. T with a mostly-in-sync dance. Then came the first contest, Beach Wear. Some of the boys sported bikinis, some wore pool floaties. All in all, the crowd got an eyeful.
The second competition was a talent face-off, including a couple dancers, a circus clown, and a wrestler. The boys are very outgoing and they made sure to get the crowd involved.
After an intermission, the next showdown was Personality Wear/ Interviews. The seniors came out in their favorite outfits and were asked a question, such as their favorite memory, or what they'd say to future Mr. T. contestants. One constant was quizzed on what makes them blush, to which they responded, "asking girls to prom," and proceeded to ask a girl to prom.
After all the competitions, the guys ended with another choreographed dance, and waited to see who was decided as Mr. T. The judges were faced with a difficult decision, as two of the boys were close in scores. It was decided based on talent, Coleby being the winner. He was crowned by Mr T. 2016, Conner Vemilyea, and Mr. T. 2017, Austyn Finley, as Mr. T. 2018, TJ Nef, was not present.
