, representatives and every state and local official imaginable. The event's history and stories get told in many ways depending with whom you speak, but it is without a doubt the longest running continuous political event in the State of Washington.
Housed in numerous locations from the Wood Workers Union Hall to the present day Willapa Harbor Chamber building, it has always boasted capacity crowds. As a high school girl in the late 1940's, Evelyn Wilson remembers helping her mother and the woman’s Democratic Club prepare the meal. According to Evelyn, she has attended close to 50 annual crab feeds since the late forties. More recently, the patriotic rendition of God Bless America by county clerk Virginia Leech is often highlighted as one of the most memorable moments of the event. Some of the stories surrounding the Crab Feed are best left untold, but the longevity of the gathering is its greatest accolade.
Join in the history and festivities at this 88th renewal of a great local tradition, Saturday March 16, at the Willapa Harbor Chamber building, 916 West 1st St., South Bend. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with mouth-watering crab served at 6 p.m.
