Naselle held South Bend to six points in the second quarter and just two in the final quarter during a 46-30 win at Koplitz Fieldhouse last Friday night. Katlyn Sawyer paced the Lady Indians with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
South Bend dropped to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in the Pacific League.
Rielly Myers had 8 rebounds and Sierra Cearns gave out 6 assists.
“We never could catch up after giving up the lead in the second quarter,” South Bend head coach Gary Wilson told the Herald. “We fought to within four points, but that was just too much of a stretch to overcome.”
Wahkiakum 60, Lady Indians 23
Wahkiakum raced out to a 22-0 lead after the first quarter enroute to a 60-23 romp last Wednesday at South Bend.
“They were better in every part of the game,” Wilson said, “There wasn't much we could really do. The hit everything – long range shots and inside.”
South Bend was led in rebounding (8) and scoring (7) by Myers.
North Beach 49, South Bend 43
Host North Beach held off South Bend 49-43 last Tuesday (Jan. 7) at Oyehut. The Lady Hyaks built up a 34-20 halftime lead and held off a late charge by the Tribe. South Bend got to within four points in the fourth quarter but could get no closer.
Sawyer and Kessa Wilson and Sawyer both had double-doubles for SBHS. Wilson collected 14 rebounds and scored 10, and Sawyer wound up with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Emily Sanchez dished out seven assists, and Myers scored 7 points.
“They came out and hit everything,” Wilson said. “I was real proud of the girls the way they came back.”
South Bend hurt itself by connecting on just 11 of 22 free throws.
Quay Sotomish scored 23 points and took down 13 boards for NB. The Lady Hyaks improved to 3-6 and 2-3 in the league with the win..
South Bend hosts Willapa Valley tomorrow, travels to Montesano Saturday and hosts Northwest Christian Tuesday.
