Dixie Meyer, 92, a long time Winlock resident, passed away on January 28, 2013 in Temecula, California. Dixie was born in Dardanelle, Arkansas January 2, 1921.
After graduating from nursing school she moved to Houston, Texas, working as a nurse, when she met and married Lt. James Cunningham of Winlock in 1942. He was killed in action during World War II. In 1945 she moved to Winlock and lived with his parents while working as a nurse in Dr. Fishbach's office.
In 1949 she married John Meyer and they spent their lives in Winlock until John passed away in 2007. Dixie settled in at Sharon Care in Centralia until October 2011 when she moved to Temecula, California to be closer to her daughters.
She was devoted to raising her family and was a long time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also volunteered at the food bank for many years.
Dixie is survived by daughters Judy (Dale) Barbat, Barbara (Loren) Huweiler and son John (Michele) Meyer all of California. She is also survived by four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.A Memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Winlock February 21st at 11:00 a.m. followed with a reception in the Church hall. Arrangements under the direction of Cattermole Funeral Home. Remembrances may be made to the Winlock-Vader Food Bank, P.O. Box 403, Winlock WA. or the American Cancer Society.
