The Lewis County Sheriff's Office has begun investigating the death of an 8-month-old Toledo boy after the child reportedly stopped breathing at his residence on Wednesday evening.
Deputies responded around 8:30 p.m. to a residence on the 200 block of Foster Creek Rd., south of Toledo, as local EMS responders were performing CPR on the child.
"When deputies arrived, they learned that the father had found the baby not breathing in his crib," stated Chief Deputy Stacy Brown in a statement released this morning. "911 was called and CPR was started. However, the CPR efforts were unsuccessful."
"An investigation is under way," continued Brown, "and there will not be any further information to release until an autopsy is performed, which will potentially happen on Friday."
Brown later stated her department is not acting specifically on a suspicion of homicide but is rather vetting all possible causes of death.
"It is still early in investigation and we aren't speculating on anything," she said. "We will need to await the results of the autopsy."
