Traffic utilizing the Simpson Avenue Bridge in Hoquiam was re-routed starting on August 31, and is expected to re-open sometime in mid October. During the total closure, drivers will follow a signed detour that will route them to the nearby Riverside Avenue Bridge, which will be used as a two-way detour. The closure is accredited to the bridge being painted, now time for an update to the bridge's paint; the last time it was painted was in 1992. The deteriorated paint can expose the steel to weathering, rust and corrosion, and repainting the bridge will prolong the life of it. Residents are asked to be patient with the process and continue to utilize businesses that will be impacted buy the closure.
