Dessert auction for Winlock basketball

The Winlock Basketball Association is hosting a meet and greet/dessert auction this Saturday to help introduce new Head Basketball Coach Nick Bamer to the community.

The evening starts at 6 p.m. at the High School Cafeteria and will feature discussions about plans for the upcoming season, while the auction will help raise funds for the kids to attend summer sports camps.

Lions hosting bingo in Winlock

The Lions Club will be holding their regular Bingo game Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Building. Cash prizes will be available, along with a surprise round with special offers. The kitchen will also be open to provide refreshments. For info call Jeannie Emmenegger at (360) 785-4817.

Annual Toledo Cleanup Day

Vision:Toledo will be holding their annual Community Cleanup Day this Saturday starting at 9 a.m.

Volunteers are encouraged to gather at the Boat Launch downtown, where they will be split into groups and given assignments. Those attending are encouraged to bring work clothes while items such as wheelbarrows, shovels, paintbrushes, weed-eaters, pitchforks, power washers and other tools are needed, as well.

A free BBQ lunch will be available for volunteers at noon at the city's historic jailhouse, provided by the Toledo Lions Club. For more information, call City Hall at (360) 864-4564.

Donations sought for food bank cafe

The Winlock-Vader Food bank has announced, in preparation for the opening of their café downtown on June 1, they are seeking donations of equipment from the community.

Needed at this time are table pedestals, a chest freezer, an upright freezer and two-door, six-foot metal cabinets. Volunteers are also sought to help operate the adjoining thrift store, as well as items of used clothing, books, toys and furniture for the store. Those with donations are encouraged to drop them off at the food bank Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their location on the corner of First St. and Fir St., in Winlock.

Vader Car Show coming up

The Country Cruisers Car Club will be holding their annual Car Show on Saturday, June 6, at McMurphy Park, in Vader, and the public is invited to attend.

This free event will feature vehicles both finished and unfinished from all around the region, as well as vendors catering both to car fans and the crowd. The opportunity also remains to enter a vehicle into the show, with the cost being $15 per entry and the option for more than one entry per person. Awards in several categories, including best in show, will be announced that afternoon. For more information, call Club President Al Bangs at (360) 827-1899.
