Popular Head Basketball Coach and Toledo Middle School Teacher Scott Merzoian has resigned to accept a teaching position at Longview's Monticello Middle School, closer to his residence.
Merzoian was the head Toledo Basketball Coach at Toledo High School and had a win record of 290-118 during his career and was part of nine state trophies that returned to the high school, including a state championship last year.
He graduated from Toledo High School in 1988 and then returned in 1998 to teach. It is expected his resignation will be considered for official acceptance during the Toledo School Board meeting on Thursday.
Toledo moves to the 2B classification in most sports for the coming school year and returns nearly all of the players from a boys basketball team that went 18-9 last year and ended up playing for a trophy in Yakima.
