An emergency temporary fix has gone underway for erosion issues along the Westport by the Sea condominium complex property. Up to 60 feet of the bank line in front of the property has eroded, leaving just 80 feet of clearance between the bank and the property. Brumfield Construction are responsible for the temporary fix-up. Locally sourced sand is being utilized in the reconstruction of the bank, and the Brumfield's first order of business is to anchor the larger pieces of drift-wood that is entrenched in the bank, in order to make a more securely structured bank. The crew anchored the driftwood by first securing them with metal cables, and then attaching them to rods that they dug down into the bedrock below the beach with. The crew also placed a biodegradable fabric upon the bank, that is designed to help combat erosion by decomposing slowly. The mesh then provides prolonged protection and structure while simultaneously allowing vegetation to grow through it.
