Authorities are investigating the death of a 3-year-old Vader boy after emergency responders were called to reports the child had stopped breathing on Sunday evening.

Responders from fire districts in Vader, Ryderwood, Winlock and Toledo, as well as the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, arrived at the 400 block of Main St. shortly after 5 p.m. and attempted to revive the child and transported him to Providence Centralia Hospital, where it was later reported he had died from causes described as "suspicious" by the Sheriff's Office.

Lewis County Coroner Warren McLeod stated Monday an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday and, before that time, he could not describe a likely cause of death. He also commented the name of the child is expected to be released pending identification by next-of-kin.
