As History has Shown, Goodness will Prevail

By Ron Craig

Others have lamented that we are “going to hell in a hand basket”. Well, for sure, our country is changing. However, the jury is still out how this will shake out in the next few decades.

I believe history is, and should be our guide. Fortunately, we have thousands of years of written history as our guide. The Pentateuch (also known as the Torah, or five scrolls, or Genesis) One of the 10 central themes of the Pentateuch, of God and about God: Creation establishes a good world…after creation was completed, God looked and “found it very good” (Genesis, 1, 31). Thus, no matter what evil and failure will follow in world history, we are to recall that goodness will prevail; I accept this as a matter of faith.

Therefore, I believe as history has shown, eventually goodness will prevail. I can find no time line for this to occur, and many times things get much worse before they get better.

For those of us who have seen better and worse times, we know that the constant is change, and we must accept change. However, with age comes experience, and we know that not all changes will initially lead to goodness.

The change our country is experiencing today is one of selfishness, and lack of personal responsibility. We all have been given self-determination we have also been provided guidance for using this self-determination for good, not evil. Not all of use that guidance consistently, and others reject the guidance altogether. However, one cannot be judgmental of others actions. But we all live in the same world, and others actions affect our lives. History shows over and over we humans don’t learn from history.

I hope that each individual reading this editorial will pray for guidance in conducting his or her life, and raise their children in a manner that takes responsibility for their own lives.
