Dogwood String Band is just one of the acts performing during the Winlock Pickersfest.
The 18th Annual Winlock Pickers' Festival is this weekend August 3 - 5 at Winolequa Park here in Winlock. This is a festival that is enjoyed by many people in the area, they have workshops, and many other events throughout the weekend.
The festival includes instructional workshops, open mics, plenty of pickin and grinnin: and organized kids activities. Performances start on Friday and end on Sunday but camping starts on Thursday evening.
On Friday, August 3 the Winolequa Park will be filled with many visitors from all over the county and performers from Nashville, Portland and Seattle. Marv Sobolesky stated "Come out to Pickersfest to enjoy a full weekend of activities and fun." Admission is $15 per day or $25 for the weekend. WAMA members admission is $10 per day or $20 per the weekend and 12 and under are free. There is no beer garden due to insurance.
Friday starts with open mic from 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Performances are as follows: 5:00 p.m. - The Mighty Dreadful String Band 6:00 p.m. - Roosevelt Road 7:00 p.m. - Dogwood String Band 8:00 p.m. - Richard Bennett
As Marv Sobolesky stated, "Live music is magical, its will with so much positive energy you can feel it."
Saturday starts with workshops which are a lot of fun to watch and participate in. The fiddle workshop is at 10:00 a.m., also the Dobro which is being taught by Loren Postma. At 11:00 a.m. there is the Bass workshop by Steve McMahon, at 1:00pm the Guitar workshop by Richard Bennett, at 2:00 p.m. Jon Meek will teach the Banjo workshop, and at 3:00 p.m. will be the Mandolin workshop by Robin Suskind. Each of these workshops is taught by one of the performers brought in for pickers fest.
There will be a slow Jam on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., kids activities from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. and open mic from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Saturday evening is filled with performances starting with The Mighty Dreadful String Band at 5:00 p.m., then at 6:00 p.m. it's the Dogwood String Band, at 7:00 p.m. with Julie and the Wayves, and 8:00 p.m. with Richard Bennett.
On Sunday there are performances by Julie and the Wayves at 10:00 a.m. and Roosevelt Road at 11:00 a.m. If you have been to Pickersfest, you know there is a lot of pickin and grinnin going on. It's an event that every member of your family will enjoy!!
